Soft Opening vs Grand Opening

Who's seen the movie Ocean's 13? Probably, the more obvious question is who hasn’t? For those less fortunate to not have been graced with the onscreen performance of the likes of Clooney, Pit, Damon and Pacino, I’ll give you a little insight into what I’m about to refer to later.

At one point, they are discussing one of the finer points of a casino opening and that this particular casino is going to embark on a “soft opening” vs. a standard- “grand opening”. What it basically boils down to is an opportunity for the casino to bring in a few “whales” or high rollers and test out the casino. It gives them chance to work out all the kinks prior to the onslaught of beer laden tourists, all chanting that one commercially motivated slogan “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?”

So, one of the older characters is trying to grasp a “soft opening” vs. a grand opening. Back in the old days, a casino was closed one day, and then open the next day.

Well, that’s what I’m doing with Diversified Pen.com and subsequently my blog. I am having a soft opening with friends and family just to get a feel and potentially get a few posts in an effort to break the proverbial bottle of champagne across the bow. I plan on working out the kinks, fixing some of the wording and using this “soft opening” as a chance to get feedback, criticism and get ready to start marketing my baby.

So, take a few minutes and look around. Take a gander over at Diversified Pen.com. Be my proverbial high roller and tell me what you like, what you don’t like or maybe an idea for something I’m missing.

I welcome the critique, appreciate the support and look forward to preparing for that same onslaught of visitors, while chanting “what happens on the internet stays on the internet” after I finish this “soft opening”.
