Dream Job!!!

I find it quite ironic that I wrote a blog entry completely around the concept that I had been negligent in blogging, only to not post again until a full year and change later. Kelly, you can be such a moron sometimes.

Let me clear the air, shake out the cobwebs and dust this pig off one more time with a promise to shed my negligence, much like the co-worker that always mysteriously forgets his wallet at lunch, but absolutely "will pay next time".

In my absence, much has changed. I started working for the State of Idaho as a registration manager. Yes, kiddies, I help people register their toys and work with a group of truly phenomenal people. I also have been enrolled, full-time in school and expect to graduate this summer with a B.S in B.A with a potential to head down the MBA path afterwords. If I was a betting man tho, I'd put money on any graduate work being under a different subject than business for I have found a new partner, a new mistress and new best friend. Her name is journalism and so far, she's been kind, bought me presents and even met my parents.
My undergraduate work has been online through a traditional university and the amount of writing required has blossomed into a passion that seemingly won't be satisfied, regardless of how much dribble I pour onto the screen.

So, what do I do about that? I apply for the most kickass job/contest available. The opportunity to write/vlog/blog for MLB during the entire baseball season. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a baseball freak. Eating/breathing/living baseball doesn't quite sum it up. I get absolutely infuriated every March because baseball is starting and all anyone can talk about is March Madness and I get more disgruntled every fall when the debacle that is college football trumps my beloved sports pennant runs. I actually had a co-worker one time tell me that he liked that "one guy, that hit all those home runs". I literally flicked him in the nose with a pencil and walked away.

So, as I look at my application for this job at MLB, i realize my last blog was in Oct 2009 and the one before that was April 2009. I do, however, get partial credit for that post being baseball related, but still, I felt like quite the fool. I've been inundated with school projects and writing assignments and work, but it's no excuse to skip the two things I'm most passionate about: 1) baseball and 2) writing. (clearly my wife trumps that list, let's not kid ourselves, but I'm trying to make a point here).

So, dearest blog.. I am back baby. I won't betray you again. I won't neglect you again. I've learned my lesson and it won't ever happen again. I will give you baseball nuggets all year long and give you the attention you require. Trust me baby, I'll be good from now on.. I promise, just give me one more chance.

(side note: I could make one fantastic, derelict soul mate, couldn't I?) - Carmen, do NOT answer that....

  1. We've been out here, patiently awaiting your artful arrangements of ones and zeros. Baseball would be lucky to have your talents, you're a bon vivant, you're out there living life! That you have the capability to then tell the story makes you, in my mind, the Chuck Norris of Journalism. I enjoy your postings wherever I find them. The only draw back I see in this dream job is it taking you away from your other WEB 2.0 dalliances...I suppose, for the good of MLB, but they'd better treat you right, or by God I might start watching soccer to spite them. Yes, the lengths I'll go are limitless!

  2. Dang you Kelly!
I dislike baseball on a very deep level, yet after reading your blog I caught myself walking around the house humming “Take me out to the ball game.” Your Passion is infectious.
